Edouard Ducros, painter of the Mediterranean coast around Marseille

He composed numerous views of the coastline, painted in a colorful, sunny and luminous palette, where sea and rocks interact. We can situate the work around the commune of Carry le Rouet and can see the city of Marseille in the background.

Edouard Ducros works with a knife or spatula, using broad brushstrokes to capture the changing effects of light.

Biography

Édouard Auguste Marius Antoine Ducros, born in Aix-en-Provence on August 28, 1856 and died there on October 27, 1936, was a French marine painter.
A student of Julien Gustave Gagliardini and Louis Gautier, he exhibited at various salons, including the Salon de Paris and in Lyon, winning an honorary diploma in Aix and medals in Versailles and Lyon.
An Impressionist with a passion for Provence, he was the founder of the Société des amis des arts d’Aix-en-Provence.
Very attached to regional traditions, a friend of Cézanne, Mistral and Maurras, he chose to settle in Martigues.

Museums

His works are held in the museums of Aix-en-Provence, Montpellier, Digne and Béziers. His painting, Le Grand Canal de Martigues, was acquired by the City of Paris.
