Jacques Cancaret, painter of the intimate

This intimate scene puts us, despite ourselves, in the position of voyeur. It’s through the open window and the arabesques of the wrought-iron balustrade, certainly on a summer’s evening, that we enter the intimacy of an interior.
Two elegantly dressed women, seated in armchairs, converse. Their evening wear tells us that a reception or outing is coming up.

A delicate painting with a soft palette

We can see the details of the interior decoration: wooden armchairs, plants and a painting on the wall.
The colors are soft, with accents of almond green and pinks.
