Edmond Lempereur, a highly modern personal touch
From Claude Monet, whom he admired, he retains his impressionist sensibility in the treatment of light. A painter of suggestion rather than description, his drawing favors a broad, brushed, unctuous brushstroke in which numerous colors intermingle. We can travel through the meanders of this very personal touch. The palette is a monochrome of blue, green and beige, punctuated by a few dashes of bright color.
The banks of the Marne or the Seine, a favorite subject for the artist
On the banks of the Marne or the Seine, elegant ladies and their children get ready for a boat trip. A few sailboats take to the water. The painter animates the surface of the water with reflections of the sky, its clouds and the surrounding vegetation. A balance is struck by the interplay of vertical and horizontal lines. The masts of the sailboats reaching for the sky, the surrounding trees and the figures counterbalance the broad horizontal planes of the boats, the river and the shore.
