A view of Paris, the animated Pigalle square
Adolphe Clary Baroux settled his decor at Place Pigalle in Paris. A funfair and its illuminated rides bring animation to the scene. It has just rained and the painter uses the light to make the reflections in the puddles left on the road shimmer.

Biography
Son of the jeweler Charles Baroux, Adolphe Clary-Baroux was born in Paris.
Since his childhood, he was interested in painting, and from his vacation in the Bas-Meudon, he could see renowned artists such as Stanislas Lépine, Charles-François Daubigny and Alfred Sisley painting. During his military service in Fontainebleau, Clary Baroux regularly met Alfred Sisley, whom he considered his mentor, in the nearby town of Moret-sur-Loing. The latter strongly encouraged her to go for an artistic career. Despite his father’s refusal, Clary-Baroux set out on his own, having to provide for his needs in terms of pencils, canvases and colors.
He studied with Julian and at the Germain Pilon school, where he met Edmond Eugène Valton, who chaired the Société des artistes indépendants and had him exhibit as early as 1901.
He exhibited at the Salon des indépendants, the Salon des Tuileries, the Salon Nationale des Beaux Arts and the Salon d’Automne.
