In this painting, autumn settles in the details: the leaves are falling, the geese and the canes are agitated and take advantage of the last warmth of the river. Leaning against a tree trunk, a heavy-headed Sunday fisherman tries to fool the fish. The painting could just as well have been called the siesta… As if to prolong his dream, the painter thickens the horizon with a mist.
Victor Puhonny was born in Prague in 1938. Quickly, he left his native Austria to train in Paris. He studied with Louis Schützenberger, painter from Strasbourg. At the same time, he met Georg Saal (1817-1870), his mentor. The latter, a resident of Baden-Baden, frequents Barbizon. From Georg Sall, Puhonny retains the romantic village life on the edge of the forest.
