The portrait is a space for representation, for staging the character.

This large full-length portrait shows a smiling little girl with rosy chicks and lively eyes. She seems to have taken to modeling. The heavy red curtain serving as a backdrop to the canvas, and the floor with its colored stripes, evoke a performance scene.

A skillful use of color in the work of Albéric-Victor Duyver.

The velvety navy blue of her dress, with its white lace collar and cuffs, the delicate little gold ear pendants, the shinning shoes and the small bouquet of roses add delicacy to the work. The model’s luminous face and the white embroidery of her dress stand out against the crimson red of the curtain. Her rosy face is enhanced by the dazzling white of the lace.
