An impressionist painting with vivid, contrasting colors.

Paul Pascal depicts an elegant woman on the banks of a pond, facing a thatched cottage. The character’s attire allows us to date the painting to around 1895.
The painter uses bright, contrasting colors. A bright red parasol and ribbon create a lovely contrast with the greens of the vegetation; pinks and beiges soften the overall effect.
Paul Pascal plays with the reflections of the thatched cottage and of the light in the water. The plaid patterns on the elegant woman’s blouse echo the dominant colors of the canvas.
