Biography
Jean Marie Auguste Jugelet, born in Brest and died in Rouen, was a French painter.
Son of a naval commissioner, he was a pupil of Théodore Gudin, and like him became a marine painter.
He made his debut at the Salon in 1831 and exhibited there until 1870. The Breton coastline often inspired him, as did Normandy.
He was commissioned to reproduce views of the main French ports, and made frequent trips on government ships.
He is also known for his historical seascapes
He was named Chevalier de la Légion d’Honneur on April 28, 1847.
Cellist, At the end of his life, he was a member of the Société philharmonique de Rouen.
The Musée des Beaux-Arts de Reims conserves several of his seascapes of Brittany and Normandy.
