A view of Paris, the animated Pigalle square
Adolphe Clary Baroux settled his decor at Place Pigalle in Paris. A funfair and its illuminated rides bring animation to the scene. It has just rained and the painter uses the light to make the reflections in the puddles left on the road shimmer.

Biography
Son of the jeweler Charles Baroux, Adolphe Clary-Baroux was born in Paris.
Since his childhood, he was interested in painting, and from his vacation in the Bas-Meudon, he could see renowned artists such as Stanislas Lépine, Charles-François Daubigny and Alfred Sisley painting. During his military service in Fontainebleau, Clary Baroux regularly met Alfred Sisley, whom he considered his mentor, in the nearby town of Moret-sur-Loing. The latter strongly encouraged her to go for an artistic career. Despite his father’s desagrement, Clary-Baroux started as a painter. He needed to be self reliant in order to be able to afford his painting material.
He studied at Julian’s and at the Germain Pilon school where he met Edmond Eugène Valton who was president of the Society of Independent Artists.
From 1901, he exhibited at the Salon des indépendants, at the Salon des Tuileries and then at the Salon d’Automne
