JA Walker, British painter, gives us here a most charming painting, far from the battle scenes he is used to representing.

An elegant horseman, wearing a sailor bachi, walks in the countryside. He is accompanied by a second stallion and a dog who seems not to want to be forgotten. The naturalness and liveliness of the scene as well as the pictorial quality, specific to this specialist in horses, are the assets of this painting.

Admitted to the Beaux-Arts de Paris in the studio of Picot, he is the friend of Alphonse de Neuville, Jean-Georges Vibert and Berne-Bellecour.

He mainly painted military subjects, horses and battle scenes. At the Salon of 1887, he obtained an honorable mention for his painting, Voie perdu. He died at his Parisian home in the Villa des Arts on December 24, 1898.
