Alexandre Lippmann was born in Paris in 1881. He is known to be the grandson of Alexandre Dumas and a quality swordsman, medalist of the Olympic Games of 1908, 1920 and 1924. Besides his sports career, Lippman draws. Fine watercolourist, he frequents socialite Paris and Kiki de Montparnasse, of which he paints an intimate series.

This ink on paper depicts Kiki lying on an unsketched bed. His head and chest rest on a chubby cushion; her hands, crossed behind her head, give the model her nonchalant and mischievous look.

The painter draws the forms of the nude with accuracy, gives shine to his short hair and sketches dense and smoky shadows to his silhouette.
